for God's love and blessings
We thank you God our Father for the world you have made, and for all your love and care. We thank you for the warmth of the sun and the rain which makes things grow. We thank you for food and water and the beauty in flowers and animals, in the landscape and in the sky. We thank you, for all you provide that sustains our earthly and eternal life, and that you are our strength, our rock, our tower and shield in times of need.
We thank you for Jesus Christ our Saviour, who lived and worked among us, for his suffering and death on the cross, and his resurrection to new life. We thank you for the Holy Spirit, who lives within us, guiding, teaching admonishing us and equipping us for service in your Kingdom.
We thank you for our families and friends; for those who care for us when we are ill, sad or fearful, for those who protect us and provide for us, for those with whom we celebrate our successes and our joys.
For all your gifts, Father in heaven, we give you thanks and praise. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Creator God, we thank you for the wonderful gift of language. We thank you for the diversity of languages and than we can learn to read and write. We thank you for the joy that reading brings to so many and the fulfilment authors experience.
We bring to your care the 750 million people who are unable to read and write in the world. Help us to ensure all people have these essential skills so they too may experience the pleasure of reading and increase their learning.
We praise you for the book you have given us and for the story of your relationship with the world. We praise you for the Bible Societies that have translated the Bible into so many languages that all may read in their mother tongue. Continue to bless their work. We thank you for the Word made flesh in Jesus Christ and that we can know him regardless of whether we can read and write.
In Jesus name we pray Amen.
Loving God who made all people in your own image. We are amazed at what the human body can achieve, the speed it can run, the weight it can lift, the height it can jump. How wonderous is the work of your hand.
We thank you for international competition bringing people together from across the globe in common purpose. In a world where so many are rejected and abused, where there is war, conflict and strife, we thank you for the spirit of tolerance and acceptance, of humility and respect and for the health and safety of all that sport promotes. We give you thanks for the convivial friendship engendered by sport, for lasting friendships formed and for closer connections between nations.
May we all be as dedicated as the international athlete and run the race and win the prize - a crown that will never fade.
In Jesus name we pray Amen.
